How to write a Magazine Article
1.Research your article topic using sources like books and published texts.
2.Locate individuals who could be good sources. Interview them.
3.Create an article outline. Plan your writing.
4.Start writing. Use a hook first line.
5. End on a strong concluding statement that illuminates or expands on your article topic.
6. Revise the article.
One of the key elements of a good magazine article is good research. Take the time to locate good sources and read any necessary supplementary material to help you get a better sense of the article idea.
2.Locate individuals who could be good sources. Interview them.

Think about individuals who may have interesting things to say about your topic and who can offer an expert opinion on your topic. Use a recorder and take notes during the interview, as recorders can fail.
3.Create an article outline. Plan your writing.
Read the information you collected during the research period and organize the subtopics and organize the main ideas.
4.Start writing. Use a hook first line.
A strong magazine article will draw the reader and hook them from the first line. The fist paragraph is considered to be the most important in the entire article.
5.Develop your ideas.
Write subtitles that will help the reader follow the text easily. Use paragraphs to organize the main points of the research.
5. End on a strong concluding statement that illuminates or expands on your article topic.
You should try to end your first draft with a concluding statement that leaves the reader satisfied but also curious about further developments on the topic. Go for an ending that leaves the reader asking, “what next?” and do not try to answer all the questions raised by your article topic. Instead, look for ways to wrap up the article in an interesting, open ended way.
6. Revise the article.

Check your spelling, verb tense, use of connectors and ask other to read your piece, so they can give you suggestions on how to improve or to make it more interesting.
7. Publish.

Preparing our final assessment
Class Magazine
As you know, we will create a historial class magazine to be published with all the information related to Pre-Columbian cultures you have collected and processed during these weeks. Therefore, it is important to recognize the parts of any magazine, so we can organize your work collaboratively.
That is why, we will work on a new unit of inquiry, focused on developing writing skills.
Central Idea:

That is why, we will work on a new unit of inquiry, focused on developing writing skills.
Central Idea:
Magazine articles inform, educate and entertain people.
Lines of Inquiry:
1. Paraphrasing and summarizing are different ways of incorporating other writers’ work into our own writing. (Form)
2. People write magazine articles using their experience, knowledge and research about a certain topic. (Connection)

On this website, you will find detailed information about what should each part of the magazine contain.
For our assessment we will consider:
- the front cover.
- the back cover.
- Editorial.
- Index.
- Factual section (Did you know?)
- Social Life.

Getting ready for the final assessment
In this unit, we will show our learning through a class debate. Therefore, it is important for you to know how to be part of it. Read the following to have a better understanding.
A debate is a formal argument where
groups or individuals present
opposing views about particular
issue according to a set of rules.
It is important to:
- be well researched (find out facts and other information about the topic)
- know what you are talking about
- do not learn thing by hard- explain with your own words
- make sure they have an idea of what the opponent will be arguing before we go into the debate.
- consider rebuttal points (knowing what the other side could say will allow you to respond quickly, and you will have a lesser chance of being caught off guard.)
How does it work?

Stories of Natural Disasters
Remember that just like any text, every time you write a story, the writing process will help you share your ideas and transmit what you really want to say.
Which do you think is the hardest part of the process? Write your comments below.
